During a speech at a United Way event in Charlottesville, Governor Warner stressed the importance of community service and volunteerism. He said, "Americans want to get our country fixed and to do their part. They are ready to answer the call to volunteer, but we need to make sure that people are engaged and that nonprofit and volunteer organizations are ready for the challenges ahead."

Reaching out to students has always been important to the Governor and with all of the graduations that happen this time of year, the Governor has been honored to speak at teh Richard Bland College graduation and the Eastern Virginia Medical School graduation, just to mention a few.

This year, it has been a priority for the Governor to help elect Democratic candidates to the Virginia House of Delegates and the Virginia State Senate. He has been attending Democratic candidate events from Lynchburg to Norfolk to Berryville. He'll keep working through the November elections to help elect Democratic candidates who are results-oriented and who take a commonsense approach to the issues we face today.

In traveling the state, Governor Warner has been addressing the tough issues facing all Americans today. In a recent speech at the Virginia Beach Jefferson-Jackson Dinner, Governor Warner said, "I, for one, believe that America can compete with anybody in the world. I believe that Virginia can compete with anyone in the world. But we need leadership that does not go for the short term results, but rather seeks to take on the long-term challenges." The Governor went on to lay out some of his concerns including our presence in Iraq, our standing in the world community, the decline of our health care system and the issues surrounding our national energy and fiscal policies.

Governor Warner was recently appointed the Co-Chairman of the Broadband Roundtable by Governor Tim Kaine. The Roundtable is charged with developing a telecommunications blueprint for advancing the goal of ensuring broadband access for every Virginian. Governor Warner said, “the promise of the 21st century lies in the ability to connect to the rest of the world and I am honored that Governor Kaine has asked me to co-chair the Broadband Roundtable.
